FLASH: Conservative GOP rag National Review's Kathleen Parker correctly calls on Sarah Palin (Idiot) to quit.

Well, I guess I should be careful what I wish for.

When Palin steps aside, now, as in Monday or Tuesday, before she gets destroyed at the Veep debate on the 2nd, and McCain puts Mr. Economy Romney in there, then we've got ourselves a new race.

Not much of one, but a new race.

But.. If Palin (please, please, please) shockingly doesn't quit, and then goes out and embarrasses herself and her nation even further on October 2nd, then McCain loses in such overwhelming fashion in November that we'll forget the race was seen as close in September.

My gut? She drops out. This week. Family reasons. Says she didn't realize how evil the media and blogs would be. The right wing will love that one. They love being 'victims'.

And I think it's already been decided, that's why you didn't see her last night. The Couric interview was the last one, and her debate prep went so badly, they've made their call. I just cannot visualize her debating on the 2nd. I don't see it happening. But sure hope it does. If it does, then her quitting after the fact is almost a moot point. It'll be too late then.

So, when she quits, who will it be? Mitt? Rudy? Joe? Lindsay? Or maybe Kay?

Regardless of the excuse, and whoever McCain's new pick is, the American voters will know that the last-second Palin selection showed just how hot-headed, irrational, cynical, desperate and unqualifed to be President of the United States John McCain truly is.

It was fun while it lasted.

Palin’s recent interviews with Charles Gibson, Sean Hannity, and now Katie Couric have all revealed an attractive, earnest, confident candidate. Who Is Clearly Out Of Her League.

What to do?

McCain can’t repudiate his choice for running mate. He not only risks the wrath of the GOP’s unforgiving base, but he invites others to second-guess his executive decision-making ability. Barack Obama faces the same problem with Biden.

Only Palin can save McCain, her party, and the country she loves. She can bow out for personal reasons, perhaps because she wants to spend more time with her newborn. No one would criticize a mother who puts her family first.

Do it for your country.

In Search of Sarah Palin

Watching Joe Biden buzz from network to network post debate, you had to wonder one more time: As she prepares for her own big night, is Sarah Palin's worst enemy now the McCain campaign?

Post-debate spin would have been a natural for her; a chance to be sharp and funny and charming and not worry that some interviewer would ambush her, since any pointed questions aimed at her could be brushed back with a breezy, "Hey, I have to wait my turn; tune in next Thursday. Tonight was John's night."

But once again she was nowhere to be found, and that seemed especially odd given the rough week she'd had. She sat down with Henry Kissinger and various world leaders in New York, in meetings that were initially open to cameras but closed to reporters until the networks threatened to boycott the whole thing. The encounters thus came off as substance free, though the new President of Pakistan did declare her "even more gorgeous" than he'd expected and suggested he'd like to hug her. She summed up her global speed date Wednesday: "It's going great," she said. "The meetings are very informative and helpful. A lot of good people share an appreciation for America."

Her big interview of the week, with CBS News anchor Katie Couric, was sufficiently cringe-making to inspire conservative columnist Kathleen Parker to conclude sadly that for the good of the ticket and the country, Palin should declare she wants to spend more time with her family and step down. And watching her with Couric, you had to wonder what happened to the spirited, sparkling character who swept onstage in St. Paul and turned the race upside down.

I hope she stays. She deserves to be crucified.

GOP: THE PARTY THAT WRECKED AMERICA

The McCain campaign has done its bizarre best to shield Ms. Palin from any sustained media examination of her readiness for the highest offices in the land, and no wonder. She has been an embarrassment in interviews.

But the idea that the voters of the United States might install someone in the vice president’s office who is too unprepared or too intellectually insecure to appear on, say, “Meet the Press” or “Face the Nation” is mind-boggling.

The alarm bells should be clanging and warning lights flashing. You wouldn’t put an unqualified pilot in the cockpit of a jetliner. The potential for catastrophe is far, far greater with an unqualified president.

I feel sorry for her.

No way will she leave. She will bluff her way through that debate with a who-cares, bite-me-if-you-don't-like-me bravado and a smug little smirk, just like those used by GW for the last 8 years. He was no rocket scientist either, but somehow it didn't hurt him with the voters.

"I feel sorry for her."

Don't. She's made the big leagues. She'll bow out, finish her term as Gov of Alaska and start pulling in 6 figure speaking engagements. Little Sarah finally won the Miss Alaska contest. She must feel like Simon just told her she is the new American Idol.

Oh pretty please, I pray to you the lord and personal savior of Sarah Palin, please use your divine hand, that guide George Bush to Invade Iraq, guide Sarah to not bail out of the campaign until after the debates.

Sarah needs to learn some humility and the few Americans left who still support her need to see the real Sarah Palin. She may look like a "cougar" but I'll bet when her back is up against the wall she'll she'll attack like the kind of cougar whose claws are not acrylic or french manicured. She is not a smart person and like most people who are not smart she is not a nice person either and her supporters need to see the real Sarah.

Oh, and PS, MR. Jebus, lord of Sarah and George, the rest of us would just really really enjoy watching that horrible person's public humiliation. Is there an Aramaic word for Schadenfreud?

She is too arrogant to drop out.

She will do just fine. For a real comparison between her and Senator Obama check this out.

Idiots!!! You are voting for the wrong people.

Wow. It's gonna be some fun when you are proven wrong about Palin.

I womder, will you be man enough to admit your mistake? Nah, your the new version of housing porn...American style.

She will smile and bluster and, and, whatever.

Arrogance and all, she'll do what she'll do.

If the debate format is the same as the one on Friday night, with Gwen Ifill as moderator, it should be interesting.

All Biden has to do is let her answer the questions. That's it. That will be the most intriguing part of the evening.

If she gives responses of appropriate depth that are on point, we'll all say, "..maybe running for VP isn't all that hard." But like this epic housing Ponzi scheme, fantasy always has a date with reality. And if you live a fantasy, reality can be a bummer.

Given our current state (on everything), I expect the questions to be reasonably tough and I expect her to have great difficulty responding with any relevant clarity.

she won't quit, and she won't be forced out. They're more afraid of losing face than they are of losing the election.

"...She will bluff her way through...just like...GW...didn't hurt him with the voters..."

Yep. We discount the sheer ignorance, malice, and small-mindedness of the average Joe & Jane.

I don't want Palin to quit/be fired. Too easy of a target. But if McLame wants to recover he'd pick Condi Rice, not Mittens.

You Obama bitches STILL don't get it do you? It DOESN'T MATTER what the neocons at National Review or the carpet munchers at NOW have to say about her. Palin has 30%+ of the Hillary vote sewn up for McCain. He can no sooner walk away from that than your guy can tell the crazy Kos people to piss off.

Your guy could've pulled his ass out of the flames by paying the Clintons the $25M they demanded to put Hillary on the ticket. He didn't, and now you're reduced to this silly sniping at Palin hoping for some miracle to deliver you from Obama's HUGE strategic mistake.

Like McCain's ads say - "Obama: Not Ready to Lead"

Hillary 2012 - LOL

No way is Palin gonna quit now. Like a pit bull, once she gets her teeth into something, she does not let go. Also like a pit bull, she does not bother to think whether or not this is a good strategy ... and finds out that it's wrong when Michael Vick shoves her head under water.

I hafta agree with you on one thing - that is that the more that Palin is attacked, the more that the wingnuts love her, because that whole "victimhood" thing is their most-cherished possession. Why? Well, after 8 years of being systematically raped by the GOP, with their jobs shipped overseas, their sons sent to die in pointless wars, their civil liberties shredded and their honor and dignity around the globe shat upon, well, victimhood is about all they've got left.

As Eric Draven said in "the Crow": "Feeling like a victim? Well, aren't we all..."

Romney would be an awful choice.

It was just a month ago at the GOP convention that he was calling for more deregulation of Wall St. and lower corporate taxes. All Dems would have to do is bring up his record as CEO and play the tape of his convention speech over and over.

I laugh every time I read comments from the Repug lovers who still think McCain somehow has this in the bag.

My prediction is that they'll set the bulldog loose, and go for the cougar: the return of Carly Fiorina.

Yes, she disagrees with the GOP line on the economy and women's rights, but at this point they need more than a pretty face. Hey, she might run the country the way she ran Hewlett Packard, and merge with Canada.

McCain knows he needs a dramatic game-changer. Like he tried with the "suspend the campaign" trick.

That didn't work.

So dumping Palin, blaming the left wing media, and putting in Romney, that is the last hail mary you'll see.

The conservatives will love it. The media will love it.

And I think America will see right through it.

But I give McCain some credit. This race shouldn't have even been close. How someone can run from the party that created a disaster for America over the past eight years, and not lose all 50 states, well, that's impressive.

Should be a fun week.

The elitist wing of the conservative movement have always been wary of us libertarians coming into the GOP. Sarah Palin is one of the top elected libertarian Republicans in the country, (along with Idaho's Gov. Butch Otter, and Cong. Jeff Flake of AZ).

Of course, she's going to make some conservatives nervous.

They are wary of her libertarian cultural views. This is the woman who famously fought back against social conservatives in Wasilla who wanted to run all of the bars and taverns out of town.

But what she loses from the social conservatives, she gains 10 times over in libertarian votes.

Figure, Libertarian Bob Barr was polling 6% nationwide in mid-summer, and post-Palin he's now down to 1%.

With Sarah Palin, the libertarian wing of the GOP has finally arrived. Of course, that's going to make some other Republicans nervous.

Who? Rudy.
Why? Because with him the GOP will be a shoe-in after the next (surprise) terror incident!

Sarah Palin couldn't spell libertarian

I've read where you've endorsed Romney before and now here you say replace Palin with Mitt Romney. Mr. Card Board Cut-Out. Are you kidding, 1) he'll have McCain knocked off, 2)He is the Poster Boy of Wall Street (Wall Streets first choice for Pres). What the hell are you for Keith...more fleecing of America with Romney or Stop these flawed economic policies and giveaways to Wall Street on the backs of middle-class Americans. You can't have it both ways. I would like to know why you endorse Romney and still be the creator of Housing Panic? Romney personally would hate your blog and call you unpatriotic. What gives?

blogger said...

I can't stand Mitt Romney. He's a snake.

I wrongly predicted Romney would win the GOP nomination. That's different from an endorsement.

But if McCain wants to get back on track, he needs someone who's an 'expert' on the economy, now, as his VP.

Mickey Kantor is also a possibility. Maybe Meg Witman or Carly too. All these picks by the way suck in my book. Just playing the parlour game.
